FocusInit ("we," "us," "our") is operated by Linh Morton-Tran as a sole proprietorship based in Arkansas, USA. This policy explains what data we collect through the FocusInit mobile app and focusinit.app website, how we use it, and your rights.
When you create an account using Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In, we receive your name and email address from the provider. We store these along with your user ID, timezone, and preferences (template choice, nudge settings, quiet hours) in our database hosted on Supabase.
The core of FocusInit is the data you create: tasks, goals, energy check-ins, and daily recaps. All of this is stored in your private account on Supabase, protected by row-level security so only you can access it. We use this data to power your personalized experience, including the learning engine that adapts to your patterns over time.
FocusInit uses AI (Anthropic Claude) to break down tasks, generate daily recaps, replan your day, and parse onboarding answers. When these features run, we send limited data to Anthropic's API: task titles (truncated to 100 characters), goal names, your timezone, and onboarding answers (capped at 500 characters each). If you use the photo import feature, the image is sent to Anthropic for text extraction.
Anthropic does not use your data to train their models. We log token usage and cost internally for rate limiting and cost control, but this log does not contain your actual task content.
FocusInit supports voice input for adding tasks and answering prompts. On iOS, speech recognition is handled entirely on your device using Apple's built-in speech recognizer. Your audio never leaves your phone. On Android, speech recognition uses Google's cloud-based speech API, which means audio is transmitted to Google during recognition. In both cases, only the resulting text transcript is stored, never raw audio.
If you connect your calendar (a Premium feature), FocusInit reads your device's calendar events to help plan around meetings. This data is processed entirely on your device. Calendar events are never sent to our servers or any third party. You can disconnect your calendar at any time in Settings.
Payments are handled through Apple's In-App Purchase system and managed by RevenueCat. We never see or store your credit card information. RevenueCat receives your anonymous user ID and subscription events (purchase, renewal, cancellation). We store your subscription status and plan type in our database to manage access.
We use Sentry to collect crash reports and error logs so we can fix bugs. Sentry receives error stack traces and navigation breadcrumbs but no personally identifiable information (names, emails, task content). This is disabled in development builds.
FocusInit uses Expo for over-the-air code updates. Expo receives your device platform, app version, and update channel. No personal data is included. Push notifications are currently local only (scheduled on your device). We store your notification token for future server-side notifications but do not currently use it.
You can use FocusInit without creating an account during your trial period. To provide personalized recommendations from the start, we assign your device an anonymous identifier (a random ID with no connection to your identity) and sync your usage data (tasks, check-ins, energy levels, and completions) to our servers. This data is not linked to any name, email, or account.
If you later create an account, this anonymous data is merged into your profile so your history and personalization carry over. If you never create an account and your trial expires, the anonymous data is deleted automatically along with the rest of your trial data.
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Your authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure keychain. Our database enforces row-level security so your data is isolated from other users. We use rate limiting on all AI features to prevent abuse.
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If your trial expires without a subscription, your account data is deleted automatically. You can delete your account at any time from the app's Settings screen. Account deletion removes all your personal data (profile, tasks, goals, check-ins, recaps, learning patterns, and notification tokens). Anonymized usage logs (token counts, cost) are retained for operational purposes with your user ID removed.
You can also request manual deletion by emailing hello@focusinit.app. We will process your request within 7 days.
FocusInit is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to its processing. California residents have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to request deletion. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@focusinit.app.
If you joined the FocusInit waitlist, we collected your email address only. It is stored with Buttondown, our email service. You can unsubscribe from any email or request deletion by emailing us.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by email. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
